Crude oil gushes out of tap in Kogi Village

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police, Special Taskforce on Pipeline Vandalism, Kogi State Sector are on the trail of a landlord identified only as Mallam Mohammed after a well filled with crude oil was discovered in his compound located at Gegu, Koton Karafi Local Government area of Kogi State.

It was learnt that the compound is located about 30 metres from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline in the area. The landlord was said to have escaped as soon as he learnt that policemen were on his premises.

Also discovered were several overhead tanks that belonged to one Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed who owns a pure water factory in the area.

Police told Saturday PUNCH that Suleiman insisted that he woke up and discovered that all his overhead tanks were filled with crude oil.

Our correspondent learnt that residents had lined up to fetch water when crude oil started gushing out of the tap.

Residents were said to have started struggling to fetch the crude oil before the police stormed the area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Friday Ibadin, who is in-charge of the taskforce, said on August 22, 2013, he got an intelligence report that some individuals were carting away gallons of crude oil from a village in Kogi state.

He said, “Policemen led by Kogi Sector Commander, Dawn Eremie, stormed the premises and discovered a well filled with crude oil as well as empty kegs littered in the compound. The owner of the house disappeared while his wife who was met compound claimed that they discovered that their well was filled with crude oil. She admitted that they made attempts to scoop the oil in a bid to get clean water for domestic use.

“In the course of investigation, it was also discovered that the nearby pure water factory which belongs to one Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed had crude oil filled in its tank. Investigation is ongoing while we are still on the trail of the owner of the house who is currently at large.

 Over the past few years the heat has intensified and everybody has been gasping for the thin air as a result of what some of us perceive as a malady and perverse.  This little line of write ups is not purported to create another school of thought or to generate controversies but to avail ourselves to sexual diversities and reality.

     
 Take it or leave it, some homosexuals are born this way whilst some were adopted into it by close friends either through mutual consent or otherwise, gays make up at least 4-5% of this country, Nigeria, and also exist in virtually in every society (though some might not be able to showcase it as a result of fears of being rebuffed, rebuked or even fear from being banished from the community) of the world, no wonder why Prof. Wole Soyinka tagged Gays as “Minorities and also victims of Biology” but to me they also equally victims of psychology.  Scientist are still trying to discover the gene responsible for homosexuality, Psychologists once listed homosexuality as a mental disorder but in 1973 APA(American Psychological Association) delisted it and distant itself from it by acknowledging it as a normal behavior- after all it also exists in higher animals.  Now how can you blame someone that his mental processes and sexual hormones is been directed to a same sex partner whom through mutual consent has agreed to be for each other? The only thought that comes to mind of a gay dude is just a person of same sex, now will you blame God for that or are you going to blame his thinking faculties?

      
Africans in the past and present have pretended to be more holy than the Vatican City or better than the Bishop of Canterbury- always quick to jump at anybody perceived to be gay forgetting that we all have our own skeletons in our cupboards.   Why would the actions and inactions of two consensual adults in their private rooms be of utmost concern to you? It’s lugubrious! It just seems like we prefer a criminal who will walk to your door post and cart away with your belongings than to someone whom his/her activity doesn’t in anyway infringe on your right.  Our NASS took no time in passing a bill on LGBTs by incriminating it with a draconian  and punitive sanction of 14 years of imprisonment  while the Deputy Director of the Police Pension Office, John Yakubu Yusuf whom have impoverish the lives of patriots that worked selflessly in contributing to national development  to just two years imprison for embezzling N27bn (are you sure a presidential pardon won’t pull him out?). 

Are we trying to be religious gate keepers, those that are trying to internalize religious norms on individual? Are we better than the Brits that brought religion into the shores of Nigeria? In case you are not current, in January, 2013 the Church of England (Anglican Communion) repealed the ban on gay bishops as they are now qualified to be made a Bishop provided they meet up with some certain agreements and just recently in February MPs in the British Parliament voted in favor of the Marriage bill (though nobody’s asking for it) by 400 t0 175, a majority of 225.  Israel, a country we claim to be a God’s own state doesn’t discriminate on the basis of sexuality, they organize civil unions for LGBT persons in their synagogues with Tel Aviv being a major hotspot for gay tourists, it doesn’t stop there, they permit annual gay pride day (see: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Isreal ).  Do you refer me to Leviticus? Leviticus tells us not to eat pork, rabbits or any kind of crayfish.

   
We claim it’s against our traditional practice, Chimamanda Adichie in an interview with Okay Africa (23/7/2012) was posed with questions regarding LGBT rights; “I believe in love” was Adichie’s simple answer to Africa’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights question. Boldly declaring that homophobia is “fundamentally wrong,” Adichie maintained, “Being gay is not something white people brought to us. Africans have been gay for centuries.”   Make your research and you will find out that homosexuality in Africa is as old as civilization.

So why chose to discriminate when homosexuality has been found in 450 species?  There’s need for tolerance between heterosexuals and homosexuals for it’s the best collision for peaceful coexistence, we’re all unique in our way, being gay is not by choice; for no one will like to be a minority, people are born gay.  And you can’t claim to be holy because no one is perfect, you can’t be Jesus but can emulate him (he ate with the tax collector and stopped the stoning of a prostitute).

For where there’s tolerance there’s progress, unity and absent of differentialism and corruption.  Live and let’s live.

It was all wailing Friday once family and friends of 1 of the four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) killed by a mob in Umuokiri-Aluu community on October five, this year, Lloyd Toku Mike, ordered his remains to rest in Port Harcourt.

This was even as families of the UNIPORT Four, yet because the Ijaw National Congress (INC) re-emphasised need sincere justice to heal the wound created by the brutality that finished the lives of the young men.

National President of the Ijaw National Congress, Chief Joshua Benemesia, speaking throughout the ceremonial service in honour of thespian (Lloyd) in Port Harcourt, aforementioned the congress, tho' wouldn't select payback, would monitor the progress of justice within the matter and would take more lawful actions if justice isn't seen to be done.

Chief Benemesia, WHO was described by the interpreter of the Ijaw National Congress, Pastor Victor Borubo, noted that the killers of the young men tried defaming them by occupation them robbers, however that the try had unsuccessful.

“Today, the reality is out that Lloyd and his friends weren't thieves as they were labeled . He (Lloyd) was higher than them, so that they killed him and defamed him to justify their actions.

“Today, his (Lloyd) body is ordered to rest, it's painful, however we should always all locomote with life. we have a tendency to (INC) don't seem to be planning to fight to penalise his death, however we have a tendency to hope that justice are done. If justice isn't done to heal the pains of his (Lloyd’s) and his friends, we have a tendency to (INC) can take applicable steps in accordance with the law,” Benemesia aforementioned.

Pastor Oyedepo's Slap Suit goes to Appeal Court

Robert Igbinedion, the lawyer suing on behalf of the
teenage girl humiliated with a dirty slap by Bishop
Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church in a video
which gained worldwide publicity, has filed an
appeal challenging the judgement which gave
victory to the wealthy Bishop in an Ogun State High
Court two months ago.
The appeal (Suit No: MT/73/2012) stated that the
trial Judge, Mobolaji Ojo placed unnecessary and
undue reliance on technicalities of the case to the
detriment of the suit.
Mr. Igbinedion said that the judge erred in law by
concluding that a better affidavit, which he filed to
replace the former one after a preliminary
objection was raised by the respondent, contained
fresh issues.
The appeal faulted the grounds on which the
judgement was held. The appeal stated that
plaintiff lawyer did not necessarily need to prove his
presence during the particular service or show the
date or time since he had already presented video
evidence that the incident actually took place.
Igbinedion also said he did not necessarily need to
present the victim, whom he represented as 'Miss
Justice' in the suit, before pursuing the case.
"The Learned Judge failed to advert his mind to
the Preamble to the Fundamental Rights
(Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009 which
obliged him to encourage and welcome public
interest litigations in the human rights field on
behalf of the poor, the illiterate and the vulnerable,
amongst others", the appeal statement read.
It also challenged the judgement for not ratifying
the issue of the court's jurisdiction on the matter as
raised by the respondents' counsel in a preliminary
objection before going ahead to dismiss the suit.
"Where the Respondent is challenging the court’s
jurisdiction to hear the Application, he may apply
to the court for an order striking out the suit or
setting aside the proceeding", it said.
The lawyer also noted that the judge held that the
victim of the slap was a 'fictitious character' who is
non-existent and has no standing,
In that judgement, the judge asked: "Who is Miss
Justice, how old is she, what is her standing in life,
what are her particulars? The court must be able to
ascertain and cannot be left to speculate on the
identity of the person whose right is being sought to
be enforced by declaratory orders, award of
damages and injunctive orders. The court cannot
issue and make order in favour of a ghost victim/
applicant. If I may ask, should this action succeed,
who is going to be the beneficiary of the monetary
award sought.”
Mr. Igbinedion in the appeal suggested that that
view, by the judge is irrelevant, discriminatory and
deliberately calculated to arrive at a favourable
decision.
He wrote: "The Appellant has by his further and
better Affidavit given many privileged reasons why
he cannot disclose the complete identity of the
victim to prevent her from further harm.
"The learned trial Judge failed to advert his mind to
the provisions of Rules 32(2) (b) which states that
in presenting a matter to the court, a lawyer shall
disclose the identity of his clients he represents and
the person who briefed him unless such disclosure
is priviledged or irrelevant", the appealant stated
further.
A video footage shows Bishop Oyedepo of the Living
Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel,
during an alter call in his church at Ota, where,
during an alter call, accused a teenage girl of
witchcraft and slapped her across the face for
declining witchcraft but saying she was a 'witch-
for-Christ.' The video was uploaded online and
spread cross all social media sites.
The Bishop during another service in his Church,
following the slapping footage going viral, boasted
about the act and claimed he was a 'Baba witch'
himself.

The mother of the identical quadruplet boys shaved numbers into their hair to help teachers and classmates tell them apart.
Mum Tan Chaoyun, of Shenzen in China’s Guangdong Province, shaved the six-year-olds’ heads with the numbers one to four.
She took the drastic step before they started elementary school because she was worried the boys would get mixed up.
“My sons are identical, even to me,” said Tan who reckons the only difference between them is the shape of their eyelids.
“I could only tell the difference between them by having different ankle tags on them before they turned 18 months old.
“Even now, their father can’t tell which one is which.
"Sometimes he punishes the second one for something the third one has done.”
